The most common mistake I see people make in online marketing is believing that now that they have a website or even a company affiliate website, that people will come to their site as if by magic. Having your own website ( preferably your own domain) is important but just a small step. There are millions of websites and you will need to work to get your noticed. One benchmark you can use is to see what your rank is on Alexa.com. The better your ranking online the lower your number on Alexa.
2. Neglecting to have a REGULAR Advertising Budget.
Many people try a hit or miss advertising approach and when it doesn’t work they start to believe that the business or the offer is the issue. Regular advertising that you are constantly refining and testing is essential for successful online marketing.
3. Inventing instead of Copying.
Don’t reinvent the wheel. Find someone successful in the business you are in and copy what they do. If they are in your up line they should be willing to show you step by step how to succeed. If they will not, then find someone else who will. Once you are making all the money you want then you will have the time to come up with new paths to success but for now just follow someone else.
4. No Focus.
What are your goals? Are they written and are they reasonable? If you have no list and are just starting in online marketing then quick success will be difficult. It will take time to develop a great list and cultivate them. Set reasonable goals and work everyday to reach each step.
5. No Long term plan.
You need reasonable short term goals BUT you have to have a big long term goal. A goal that is specific inspires you to keep going even when you don’t feel like you can. Set a 2 year goal and work back from there. What do you want to be making a week or a month?
6. Going for the “throat”.
Online marketing requires you to build a relationship with prospects. Too many marketers go straight for the kill and try to push a sales pitch right a way. Marketing online requires you to build relationships and that takes time.
7. Expecting Instant Results.
Online marketing takes time especially if your are starting without a list of prospects that you have built trust with. It is good to expect results but the will not come instantly. You will be building a long term money machine so build it right.
8. No Funded Proposal.
A funded proposal is simply a system that offers your prospect solutions as you get to know them and they you. For example instead of trying to sell your website visitor on your primary company right away offer help to common issues. If you use a tool to help you market then offer them the same tool and earn an affiliate commission on the tool. Using funded proposals allow you to earn from prospects even if they don’t join you.
9. No Lead Funnel System.
A good lead funnel system allows you to grab the interest of a prospect on a capture page and then follow up with that prospect with an auto responder every so often to keep the interest alive. You can tie this in with a funded proposal to start earning money sooner.
10. No Call to Action.
You may be surprised how many great Articles or Blog posts have great content and then never suggest a course of action. If you want the horse to drink then lead it to water. Offer a solution to the problem of your readers and they will thank you with their money.
